Within A Painting – Denver, CO
The Experience
Art is a form of expression I’ve always been fascinated by as I don’t have the talents to create paintings so realistically placed in a fantasy of our world. Paintings such as Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”, and DaVinci’s “Mona Lisa” are an introduction to the world of art for many children. My door opened with Claude Monet’s “Water Lilies”.
The experience of watching brush strokes dance around the world change before my eyes and under my feet truly brought out the inner child in me. The new projection technology of moving art is unlike any art museum I’ve been to before.
Entering into the studio space, we were instructed to enter one of two rooms. An art museum with only two rooms… we stay put and the art comes to us! One room had mirrored crystals and the other had a changing floor. Choosing the second room with a floor of projections cast me into rays of light.
After about 30 minutes of show time, we had seen over 20 painting animate and dance. I recognized some and most were new, brilliant works I hadn’t seen before. This is what I love about dedicating a space to one artist, we know them for one work and learn to love pieces we never knew existed. I hope they continue to revolutionize art while keeping the integrity of an old museum such as the Louvre. Perhaps someone could suggest a Jackson Pollock exhibit with projections of paint flying and splattering on the walls!
History of Monet
French artist Claude Monet is known for his impressionist art style, popularized long after his time of work! Revolutionary to other works of the 1800’s Monet shifted the style of art away from strict requirements of oil paintings into a freer style. Though many associate him with the city of Paris, France (where he was born)- Monet spent much of his time in Giverny, France where the gardens showcased in his paintings still bloom today. Most famously known is his painting of a waterlily pond framed by a green bridge. Across the river from his homestead, the pond and bridge still stand which I had the opportunity to visit in the summer of 2022! If you’re up for another trip, visit the Chicago institute where the original water lily painting resides.
The Light House Denver
Lighthouse Artspace is host to many of Denver’s living art exhibits. Located in northern Denver, the central location of this event space makes it accessible from anywhere in the surrounding areas. Initially holding the Immersive Van Gough presentation – which went viral online launching the idea of immersive art into the spotlight – Lighthouse has expanded into events that have something for everyone in the family.
As a girl who grew up loving the art style of Monet, this living waterlily drew me to this place of light, however many more events are to come including entertainment for younger art lovers. With the exhibits so far featuring paint artists of the past decades people have forgotten about modern art forms such as animation. Introducing the Disney Animation Immersive Experience! A 360 viewing of childhood stories, nostalgia for parents and teens while new exciting characters and adventures for younger siblings… this is the family experience of the art future!
Step away from your city art museum, arrive in the painting(s), visit Lighthouse Artspace today! Check out the link below for information on current events!
What Do You See as The Future of Art?
Art changes throughout history as we find new ways to use resources from the world around us and perspective shifts to favor different forms. Modern day art included graphic design, photography, and even preforming arts. Where do you see the future of art going and would you be willing to try out new ways people are innovating and expressing themselves? Let me know below in the comments and maybe someday I’ll be writing about the way you changed to world one brush stroke at a time!
